Two arrested with Rs 4 lakh in counterfeit currency

Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested two persons who were carrying Rs 4 lakh in counterfeit currency.

Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested two persons who were carrying Rs 4 lakh in counterfeit currency. The two were arrested after police received a tip-off and sent a decoy customer to strike a deal with the duo. Teams have been sent to areas near the Nepal and Bangladesh borders to trace the kingpin of the racket, who is believed to be hiding in the North-East.

According to police,a tip-off was received about two residents of Bihar, who had come to the city to exchange counterfeit notes. On receiving the tip-off,a Crime Branch officer was sent to the duo as a decoy customer. The officer approached them and fixed a deal. “We spoke to the duo several times. Initially,we exchanged fake currencies of low value. After they became confident with our decoy customer, they told us about the fake currency they had brought with them, after which we arrested the two,” R S Yadav,Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime),said.

Yadav added that the counterfeit notes were stacked in two bundles. The first bundle of Rs 2 lakh comprised fake notes of Rs 1,000,while the second bundle had Rs 500 notes. Police said tracing the source of the money was important as the notes appeared to be genuine. The two were produced at a city court on Tuesday, which sent them to eight days police custody.
