Neeraj Kumar

Age: 71

Former Commissioner, Delhi Police

Constituency: Malviya Nagar

Neeraj Kumar is a 1976-batch AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre Indian Police Service officer. He joined the Delhi Police in 1979 as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chanakyapuri. Apart from Delhi, he served in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Goa. He also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation. He became the Delhi Police Commissioner in 2012. After his retirement in 2013, he served as Chief Advisor to the BCCI for their Anti-Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU).

Issue concerning his constituency:

“The biggest issue in our area is bad roads. There are several broken roads that need to be fixed urgently. The MLA of the area or other elected leaders should look into it. There should be proper coordination of leaders representing the constituency with the municipal authorities to rectify important local issues like the conditions of roads.”

Agenda for Delhi’s new government:

“I think the top three priorities of the new government in Delhi should be to initiate anti-pollution measures, cleaning of the river Yamuna and, of course, take measures to ensure better roads across the city. The functioning of municipal corporation should be improved to make our city clean and pollution-free. They (elected leaders) say they would make Delhi a world-class city and the best capital of a country in the world. But if our municipal corporation is not working properly, how can they achieve this goal? Our roads are in bad condition, there is garbage lying unattended everywhere, and then the polluted Yamuna puts our city in a bad light. Then, air pollution is a big concern for the citizens of Delhi. It needs to be dealt with immediately.”
