India,Japan join hands on drugs for age-related disorders

India and Japan will explore the potential of developing drugs from herbal medicinal plants and marine sources for chronic age-related disorders,such as arthritis and Alzheimer’s.

India and Japan will explore the potential of developing drugs from herbal medicinal plants and marine sources for chronic age-related disorders,such as arthritis and Alzheimer’s.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday signed a MoU with Meiji Pharmaceutical University of Japan to work together in areas of health sciences.

According to the agreement,there will be exchange of faculty members,training and exchange of students,cooperation of research activities and exchange and sharing of scientific knowledge based on research and experience in both institutions.

“There is a need for exploring potential of developing drugs from herbal medicinal plants and marine sources found in India and Japan. We need to develop drugs for chronic age- related disorders such as neurodegenerative disorders,arthritis,Alzheimer’s disease and other non-communicable diseases,” said Dr R C Deka,director of AIIMS.
