Atishi said, "On one side, there is Arvind Kejriwal, an IIT-Kharagpur graduate, engineer, former IRS officer, and income tax commissioner... On the other side, there is Ramesh Bidhuri, who uses abusive language and makes indecent remarks about women"

Inaugurating a newly constructed academic block at Jhimil’s Government Girls Senior Secondary School (GBSSS) Friday, Chief Minister Atishi highlighted the Delhi government’s achievements in higher education.

Atishi, who is also the Education Minister, said parents often share their concerns with her: “They say, ‘You’ve improved schools, and education in these schools is excellent. But what about our children’s future after school?’”

Addressing these concerns, she stated, “Over the past 10 years, the Delhi government has not only focused on improving schools but also worked towards securing the future of our children beyond Class 12 by building colleges and universities. A decade ago, Delhi’s colleges offered only 83,600 seats. Today, through sustained efforts, we have nearly doubled this number, providing 1,55,000 seats for Delhi’s children by establishing new universities and expanding the capacity of existing ones.”

Atishi also said institutions like the Delhi Sports University, Delhi Teachers’ University and six new university campuses have helped increase the standard of education. Highlighting specific achievements, she shared, “Indira Gandhi Technical University for Women is another remarkable initiative where girls from Delhi pursue engineering courses. This year, a student from this university secured a prestigious job with a package of Rs 82 lakh. Across various universities, our children are getting placements in top companies — be it Toyota, Maruti, or Microsoft. This is a testament to the quality of education and the opportunities we are creating for them.”

The new block at GBSSS comprises 46 rooms, of which 25 will be dedicated to classrooms, one room will house the principal’s office, another will serve as a staff room, and six rooms will be used as labs. There are eight toilets and an elevator. Classes will be conducted in two shifts — 1,187 students in the morning and 1,435 in the evening. With the addition of new classrooms, classes in Commerce, Arts, and Science streams will now be offered.
