In a significant breakthrough against rising motorcycle thefts in the city, the Mohali police has arrested three gang members and recovered a total of 18 stolen motorcycles. The accused had formed a well-organised gang, and the police are conducting further raids to apprehend their other accomplices.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajay, a resident of Raipur (Mohali district); Sandeep, a resident of Kalitra (Nangal police area); and Waqaar, alias Salman, also from Raipur. A case had been registered against them at Phase-1 police station, and the trio was produced in court, during which the stolen motorcycles were recovered while the accused were in police remand.

DSP (City-1) Prithvi Singh Chauhan said that the investigation began after Harmanpreet Singh of Tyud village lodged a complaint on September 12 reporting that his Splendor motorcycle was stolen from outside gurdwara Sahib in Phase 5. Additional complaints from other citizens about motorcycle thefts had also been received.

During the investigation, the police apprehended Ajay Kumar during a checkpoint operation with stolen motorcycles in his possession. On interrogation, he admitted to committing thefts along with his accomplices Sandeep and Waqaar, alias Salman. Following Ajay’s identification, the other two were also arrested.

The police recovered from Ajay eight motorcycles, from Sandeep five motorcycles and from Waqaar, alias Salman, five motorcycles.

The accused said that some stolen motorcycles had already been handed over to other gang members. The police are optimistic that further investigations will lead to more recoveries. Ajay has multiple prior cases of theft registered against him.

DSP Chauhan said, “This operation sends a clear message to criminals that theft and organised crime will not be tolerated in Mohali. We are committed to ensuring the safety of citizens’ property.”
