Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday approved a ‘Directorate of Odisha Paribar’ that will act as a one-stop point of contact and support system for non-resident Odias.
Patnaik’s decision came days after he interacted with the Odia diaspora in Tokyo who requested a formal mechanism to redress their grievances.
Patnaik, who is still in Japan, attended the Cabinet meeting from Kyoto through video conferencing, which the government claimed was it’s first in the digital format.
According to official sources, the new directorate, which will run under the Odia language, literature and culture department, will engage with the Odia diaspora by leveraging their knowledge, skills, and global reach.
The directorate will act as a single point of interface with the government departments for the resolution of specific issues relating to labour, students, cultural promotion and clearances.
It will also enlist Odia associations in different parts of India and in foreign countries and enlist the Jagannath temples in the country and abroad to promote the state’s cultural heritage.
