Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwar Wednesday said Bengaluru will soon have a Cybersphere Center for Excellence (CoE), a collaborative initiative between the home department and information technology and biotech companies in Bengaluru to combat cybercrimes and build robust security mechanisms.

Parameshwar was speaking at the Techfusion Sunrise Summit-2023, organised between IT company representatives and the home department.

The interactive session focused on fostering conversations on key areas, including traffic control, safeguarding employees from cybercrimes, infrastructure progress and potential collaborations on community-focused policing in Karnataka.

The CoE will aim to create a Cybersphere Innovation Lab that will encourage collaborative innovation to develop cutting-edge technologies for law enforcement and public safety, the minister said.

He added, “It will also aim to facilitate the exchange of information and expertise between the home department and the ICT/biotech industry to improve security measures and strategies. In addition, the CoE will also focus on offering skill development training for both government and industry personnel to enhance their capabilities.”

“The Cybersphere CoE in Bengaluru will be one of its kind in India. We sought inputs from the IT-BT companies on a host of security issues and reviewed how they can contribute and collaborate with the home department for enforcing robust security measures. The summit emphasised on the partnership between corporates and the police department wherein the former has assured their support in training our law enforcement personnel with the latest digital solutions and also provide adequate lab facilities and infrastructure for skill development. Our aim is to make every policeman irrespective of the rank, tech savvy,” said Parameshwar.

In line with combating cybercrimes, the project aims to bring industry personnel and government agencies together to work on digital technologies and solutions.

According to home department officials, the project proposes collaborative initiatives to develop technological solutions for law enforcement, workshops and seminars for industry experts and government officials to discuss security challenges, solutions and emerging technologies.

The funding for CoE will be a shared responsibility between the home department and participating ICT/biotech companies. The project will also be implemented in phases, with an initial focus on establishing the centre and launching collaborative workshops and seminars.

The project also calls for regular assessments to gauge the impact of the centre on security improvements, innovation outcomes and skill development. Feedback from both government and industry stakeholders will also be sought to guide ongoing adjustments, the officials added.
