Bengaluru temperature on weekend to dip to lowest January range in over a decade

IMD has predicted a lowest minimum temperature of 10.2 degree Celsius for Saturday.

The cold wave conditions prevailing in north India over the last two days are set to result in a sharp dip in minimum temperatures in Bengaluru over the next couple of days.

The India Meteorological Department, Bengaluru, has predicted a lowest minimum temperature of as low as 10.2 degree Celsius for Saturday in Bengaluru which is well below the average minimum temperature of 15.8 degree Celsius seen in the city in the month of January.

The lowest minimum temperature ever recorded in Bengaluru is 7.8 degree Celsius on January 13, 1884, as per the IMD’s historical records.

The lowest temperatures recorded in the city in January in the last 15 years is 12 degree Celsius on January 16, 2012 and 12.3 degree Celsius on January 15, 2019.

The IMD prediction for the minimum temperature for Bengaluru over the next two days indicates temperatures going as low as 10 degree Celsius to 12.5 degree Celsius, while the average minimum temperature would be in the range of 15 degree Celsius.

The average minimum temperature recorded in the city on Thursday was 16.7 degree Celsius. The lowest temperature recorded on Thursday was 14.10 degree Celsius at Hemmigepura.

“Minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C for the next 2 days over Interior Karnataka and thereafter no large change in minimum temperature over Interior Karnataka. No large change in minimum temperatures in Coastal Karnataka,” the IMD said in its forecast for Karnataka on Friday.

For Bengaluru city and its surrounding areas, the IMD forecast “fog/mist likely in early morning hours in some areas. Maximum and Minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 27°C and 15°C respectively”.

The extreme cold wave conditions in north India resulted in severe cold wave conditions in parts of north Karnataka between December 15 and 20.

Bengaluru recorded a minimum temperature of 12.4 degree Celsius on December 16 which was lower than the lowest minimum temperature of 12.8 degree Celsius recorded since 2011 on December 24, 2011.
