All parks under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will now remain open from 5 am to 10 pm, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar said on Tuesday.
Till now, parks used to remain open from 5 am to 10 am in the morning and from 1.30 pm to 8 pm in the second half of the day.
Shivakumar said the decision to keep the parks open till 10 pm is based on requests made by the people of Bengaluru. This will be applicable to more than 1,200 parks managed by the BBMP in Bengaluru. However, officials clarified that the announcement will not be applicable for parks such as the Cubbon Park which is managed by the Horticulture department.
On being asked about the alleged misuse of parks by anti-social elements, Shivakumar said security arrangements are in place to prevent such incidents.
Shivakumar also said after launching the Bengaluru Climate Action and Resilience Plan in November last year, the Bengaluru administration will now appoint ‘Fellows of Climate Cell’.
“Bengaluru is the third city in the country to come up with such a plan. Under the new programme, the city will include the youth to monitor the implementation of the plan as fellows,” he said. “Each fellow will receive a stipend,” Shivakumar added.
The city will also appoint the ‘Friends of Climate Action Cell’. Under this, any organisation interested in the project can be a part of it. “To turn Bengaluru to BlueGreenUru, I invite all resident welfare associations and non-governmental organisations to join the movement,” Shivakumar said. Interested groups can apply through the BBMP website, where a link will be live soon for the purpose, he added.
The BlueGreenUru campaign by the BBMP is aimed at beautifying the parks, lakes and other green areas of the city.
