The Banaras Literature Festival has announced the shortlist for this year’s awards and Perumal Murugan’s ‘Fire Bird’, Jeet Thayil’s ‘I’ll Have It Here’ and Damodar Mauzo’s ‘Boy, Unloved’ have made it to the list. The festival is scheduled to take place from March 7 to 9 this year at Hotel Taj, Banaras.
The winners of this year’s festival will be announced during the curtain-raiser event on February 23, this year at PHDCCI House, New Delhi. The winners will receive a cash prize of Rs 51,000, along with a certificate and a trophy during the festival.
Deepak Madhok, president of the festival, said in a press release, “The Banaras Lit Fest Book Awards are a testament to the power of literature in shaping societies. This year’s shortlisted works showcase an incredible range of storytelling, spanning poetry, fiction, and groundbreaking non-fiction. It is heartening to see literature thriving and evolving in such meaningful ways.’
Brijesh Singh, founder and secretary of the festival added, “We are delighted to announce this year’s shortlist, featuring some of the most thought-provoking and impactful books of recent times. Our esteemed juries have taken on the mammoth task of carefully preparing this magnificent list. The Banaras Lit Fest continues to be a platform that recognizes literary excellence and fosters meaningful dialogue in Indian literature.”
