Japan is known for many things, and one of them is everyday innovation. Now, a video of a uniquely designed eraser from the island nation is going viral. Instead of a simple rectangle-shape, this eraser comes with 45 sharp angles.

Japan-based Sun-Star Stationery created this product after being inspired by origami art. The flat top of the eraser can be used to rub away larger areas while its edges can be used to correct smaller imperfections.

Recently, a popular Instagram account @chicwrite shared a demonstration of this eraser. So far, this clip has over 2.2 lakh likes. Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “as an architecture student THIS IS A NEED”. Another person wrote, “Their stationary stores are the reason why I’d come back broke from Japan \”.

While many people were fascinated by this product, a few were less impressed. An Instagram user wrote, “It’s cool, but i think it is over-engineered.” Another person wrote, “Solving problems I didn’t know existed”.

In December 2022, a similar video documenting some of Japan’s everyday innovations went viral. Some of these innovations and quirks included a vending machine that offers hot pizza and transportation that comprises small boats moving across narrow canals that require people to duck while passing under a bridge. The video also shows Japan’s futuristic flashy arcades, older adults taking their pet tortoises on a walk, and deer crossing roads while following traffic rules.
