The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the Chandrayaan-3 mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2.35 pm on Friday. Almost the whole of India was glued to their television screens as the ISRO launched the spacecraft that aims to make a soft landing at the moon, making India join an exclusive list of just three countries that have been successful in this regard.
Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, who is known for making beautiful sand sculptures at Odisha’s Puri beach, created a massive sculpture to commemorate the launch of Chandrayaan-3. According to the ANI news agency, Pattnaik created the 22-ft-long sand art of Chandrayaan-3 with the installation of 500 steel bowls. He also wrote the message, “Vijayee Bhava”.
“Best wishes to team @isro for success of #Chandrayan3 mission. My SandArt installation with 500 steel bowls with a message “Vijayee Bhava”, at Puri Beach in Odisha,” Pattnaik tweeted.
As ISRO prepared for the launch of the mission and people waited with bated breath, Chandrayaan-3 trended on Twitter.
Social media accounts of UP Police, Mumbai Police, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Zomato and Swiggy also wished for the success of the mission in their own ways.

Chandrayaan-3 follows Chandrayaan-2, which met with failure in its last legs. This will be India’s second attempt to soft-land on the moon.
Just three countries have managed a soft-landing on the moon—the United States, the erstwhile Soviet Union and most recently, China. Both the United States and the Soviet Union crashed many spacecraft before they successfully landed on the moon. China was the only country to succeed in its first attempt, with the Chang’e-3 mission in 2013.
