British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty landed in New Delhi ahead of the G20 summit on Friday. Sunak took to Instagram to share a few photos of the couple being welcomed by Union minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey at Palam airport.
One of the photos providing a glimpse into Sunak and Murty’s personal life is going viral. It shows Murty fixing her husband’s tie before they disembark from the aircraft. While the act appears routine, the small gesture has melted hearts online.
“We’ve landed in Delhi ahead of the G20. We’re here to deliver for the British people,” Sunak wrote on Instagram.
Sunak also called on students and staff at the British Council. He and his wife were received at the British Council’s cultural centre, where they engaged with schoolteachers and students during an exhibition on education programmes.
“Before meeting the world leaders of today I’ve been meeting with the world leaders of tomorrow. It’s been fantastic to visit students and staff here at @inBritish (British Council in India) — a reflection of the living bridge that exists between the UK and India,” Sunak posted on X, formerly Twitter, along with photos of his interaction.
Sunak and Murty got married in August 2009 and the couple have two daughters together. Murty is the daughter of Infosys founder N R Narayana Murty and Sudha Murty, chairperson of the Infosys Foundation.
The 2023 summit is the eighteenth meeting of the G20. It is taking place at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre in Pragati Maidan and the first G20 summit being held in India and South Asia.
