Flight journeys are often a marvel of modern convenience, but they can turn harrowing when things go wrong. Recently, a video from Turkey captured an alarming scene of a plane engulfed in flames, with panicked passengers scrambling to safety. The incident occurred at Antalya airport and involved a Russian-made Sukhoi Superjet carrying 89 passengers and six crew members.
The video was shared by aviation analyst Alex Macheras (@AlexInAir) along with a caption, “Breaking: Russian airline Azimuth appears to have one of its Sukhoi SuperJet 100 (which is a Russian manufactured short-haul passenger jet) involved in an incident in Turkey—videos showing the aircraft on fire at Antalya Airport.”
The video, which has been widely circulated online, shows the jet consumed by fire as terrified passengers scream and scatter across the runway with their carry-on bags with them as they evacuate. The footage appears to have been recorded by someone standing at a distance, capturing the chaos as it unfolded.
According to ABC News, the cause of the fire is still unclear. Videos shared by the transport ministry show firefighters spraying foam beneath the aircraft and dousing the fire in the left engine to bring the blaze under control. The ministry said all 89 passengers and the six crew members were safely evacuated.
The aircraft had reportedly arrived from the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi before the incident.

Users on social media promptly highlighted the potential dangers of doing so in a crisis.
One user showed displeasure and wrote, “Anyone who takes their hand luggage with them in an emergency evacuation should be banned from flying for life.”
Another individual added, “And they all took their hand luggage with them. This is ridiculous.”
A third user commented, “It seems that luggage is more important than saving your life.”
A fourth user requested, “In case of an evacuation you should leave your bags behind !!!!!!!! Oh lord, after I saw the passengers rolling their bags, I will not think about the chaos in the plane. This behavior kill people!”
