Actor Cillian Murphy is all the rage with the recent release of Oppenheimer which is topping the box office around the world. Now, a tweet that mentions the Irish actor’s women’s rights advocacy in his home country is winning over more fans.
In 2018, many Irish celebrities, including Murphy, campaigned for the abolition of Ireland’s strict abortion laws that restricted women’s access to medical care. The pro-abortion activists in Ireland rallied under the umbrella of the Together for Yes campaign that advocated for a ‘yes vote’ in the 2018 referendum to nullify the constitutional ban on abortion in the country.

Months before the referendum, leading Irish actors like Cillian Murphy, Saoirse Ronan, and Liam Cunningham, were featured in campaign videos of the Together for Yes campaign. On March 27, 2018, 66 per cent of Ireland’s people voted in favour of abolishing the abortion ban, hence making the campaign successful.
On Sunday, a Twitter user Ciara (@Ciara87C), tweeted, “Cillian Murphy might be the star of a massive movie atm but to me he will always be the guy that showed up in the rain to our abortion rights marches”.
The Twitter user subsequently shared a photo of Murphy from a protest march.
Another Twitter user @Davependo shared a picture of a handwritten note reportedly sent by Murphy to the Together for Yes campaigners. The user wrote, “He even sent a cake & a lovely note down to the together for yes headquarters the week of the referendum too”.
