A non-profit research organisation found two letters stored inside glass bottles while they were surveying a beach at USA’s Texas Coastal Bend. These letters were reportedly written and posted from Jamaica by vacationers from the USA. They were dated June 11 and June 13, 2022 and were written by Easton and Madi respectively.
The Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve, a non-profit organisation that studies the coast and waters of the Texas Coastal Bend, posted pictures of these letters on their Facebook account. The non-research organisation had blurred out the addresses and phone numbers of the letter writers before sharing the pictures of the letters.
Both letters mentioned that the writers recently graduated from high school and were in Jamaica on a vacation. In her letter, Madi writes, “I wish I had some good secrets or something to share, but I really don’t”. She concluded by writing, “I hope this found you well and please reach out if it found you at all”.
Easton starts the letter by writing greetings in various languages and mentions that she has to attend university in the US after this vacation ends. She concludes by saying, “Anyway, I hope someone finds this and it makes their day!- your day.”
Commenting on this post, a Facebook user wrote, “Thank you for sharing. That’s really the greatest. I love the thought of people engaging the seas with letters in a bottle. It’s taken a year to get to you, can you imagine the journey. Oh I truly love this…The second letter is really hard to read on my end, but the first one is great.”
Another person commented, “I’m certain I’ll be criticized for this comment but, while a message in a bottle is fun, it’s still litter and should not be encouraged. Go ahead now, show your nasty side and criticize me for my comment”.
