As the world celebrates Earth Day on April 22, Saturday, Google sheds light on climate change with its doodle that urges people to make a real difference by adopting environment-friendly practices.
“Today’s #GoogleDoodle celebrates 🌏 Day Individuals & communities can work together to take action against climate change. Learn more about how to get involved in Earth-saving activities,” read Google Doodle’s tweet.
In a blog post, it said: “As depicted today’s Doodle (which is made from real leaves) there’s a spectrum of actions we can take in our day-to-day that can add up to make a real difference.”
The Google Doodle suggested that people adopt practices such as opting to air dry laundry instead of using a dryer, opting for a plant-based diet or plant-based options whenever possible, and walking or riding a bike instead of driving.
The theme for Earth Day this year is ‘Invest in our planet’, calling for people and businesses to work together towards building a healthy economy for the sake of the planet. As per EarthDay.org, the theme for 2023 Earth Day tries to make sure we work towards a more equitable future for everyone.
The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970 and was organised by Denis Hayes. Several environmental issues were put forth for public debate in the late 1960s. The iconic book Silent Spring, published by Rachel Carson in 1962, was touted as the “first shot in the war over the environment”.
