On Thursday, the Internet transformed into a Ghibli-inspired haven, with users taking advantage of OpenAI’s latest native image generator to create everything from memes to portraits. What stunned the Internet is how GPT-4o’s generator enables them to create stunning visuals that closely resemble the iconic animation style of Studio Ghibli.
The renowned Japanese animation studio, founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Toshio Suzuki, is known for its classic anime. Elon Musk hopped onto the trend using OpenAI’s viral feature to create a Ghibli-like anime for iconic movie “The Lion King,” but with a crypto twist. In the animation, Musk imagines himself as a monkey holding the DOGE mascot in the air.
“Theme of the day,” Musk wrote.

“Go get Scar he is hiding in the badlands Mufasa !!” a third user said.
Meanwhile, a throwback video of one of the Studio Ghibli co-founders shutting down AI researchers has resurfaced on X. In the viral clip, a part of NHK’s documentary series “NHK Special: Hayao Miyazaki — The One Who Never Ends”, Miyazaki tells the researchers, “You can make horrible things if you want, but I want nothing to do with it.” In response, one of the AI researchers says that it is just in the research phase and they are not going to show it to the public.
