Murali Divi, a US-trained scientist, started Divi’s Laboratories 34 years ago as a small drug research company. Today, it’s one of the world’s biggest suppliers of ingredients used in medicines. The company also makes products for major global pharma firms and sells health supplements. Almost 90% of its $953 million revenue comes from exports.
P P Reddy, born in a farmer’s family, started Megha Engineering in 1989 making small pipes. It soon grew into a big company building dams, power plants, roads and gas networks. Now run by his nephew P V Krishna Reddy, Megha built India’s largest lift irrigation project in Telangana. Its unit Olectra makes electric buses with China’s BYD and had 7,600 orders in 2024.
B Partha Saradhi Reddy founded Hetero Group in 1993. It makes medicines for AIDS, cancer, diabetes and more, with over 200 products. He is also a member of the Rajya Sabha.
P V Ramprasad Reddy co-founded Aurobindo Pharma in 1986. The company began with one plant in Pondicherry and now makes most of its money from the US and Europe. It produces medicines for diabetes, heart disease and more, and in 2023 got approval to launch the cancer drug Revlimid in India.
Surender Saluja started Premier Energies, a solar company in Hyderabad. His son Chiranjeevi now runs it. The company went public in September 2024 with shares opening 120 per cent higher than the issue price.
The Reddy family owns Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, founded in 1984 by K Anji Reddy. Now run by his son Satish and son-in-law G V Prasad, the company earns mostly from North America and has expanded into nutraceuticals, gene therapy, and digital healthcare.
Mahima Datla runs Biological E, a Hyderabad vaccine company founded by her grandparents in 1953. It makes Corbevax (Covid-19 vaccine) and other WHO-approved vaccines, exporting to over 130 countries.
