DMK MP walks out of meeting hosted for Lankan Parliamentarians

DMK MP staged a walkout from a meeting in protest against the "violence and human rights violations".

DMK MP Tiruchi Siva on Monday staged a walkout from a meeting in honour of visiting Lankan Parliamentarians convened by Vice President Hamid Ansari,in protest against the “violence and human rights violations” by the Sri Lankan government against ethnic Tamils.

Siva,a Rajya Sabha member, alleged that the Sri Lankan government “employed military force ruthlessly in the name of tackling civil war”.

“All promises made by the incumbent govt have not been implemented. Rather brutality, separation and genocide increased manifold,” he alleged before the delegation, according to a press release issued by his office.

“As the delegation was welcomed in the House today,I restrained myself in registering protest and maintained silence keeping in mind the dignity and decorum of our Parliament,” he said.

He said he was “walking out” condemning the violence, human rights violations and repressive measures of Sri Lanka.

“It is practically not possible to be friendly with a delegation representing a government which is out and out hostile toward Tamil population of Sri Lanka,” he said before walking out.
