Life would have been so simple, uncomplicated sans the clutter at home. Yet, it’s so difficult to start the de-cluttering process. Guess what, you can make the process fun by involving kids and inculcating the organisation skills in them. Here’s how to go about it.
1. Sell off those old books
A pile of books is looking at you from a distance, requesting a shelf. The problem? You don’t have space. It’s time to pick up a notepad and make a list of books you don’t need anymore. You can sell them off to people who might need it. Of course, there are options like OLX.in which will facilitate the sale of second-hand stuff. Let a sigh of relief once you have achieved the target. Congratulations, you have just done the impossible.
2. Give away your kids’ old toys
Of course, there are certain kind of memories attached with your kids’ toys, but if these memories are blocking the space to create new ones, then you better sort them out. The toys and other merchandises which your kids would have been using at a certain age may not be of any use anymore. There are children who require these toys more than us and will happily own these used toys. This act will also teach our kids the value of sharing and bringing joy to others.
3. Make the cleaning fun
Take out a week every few months to sort things out. During this cleaning week, look at every nook and corner of the house to eliminate items like old clothes, showpieces, and other gift items that occupy a lot of space. The pace at which we acquire things these days, it is important for children to take stock of what they own every few months. This will also make them appreciate the value of things they own, and the value of their parents’ hard earned money.
4. Spread values through kids
By putting your kids through a regular routine of de-cluttering, you can inculcate the habits of being organised in kids, which they would in turn talk about and spread in their peer group.
