HE may be a regular on the Couture Week roster, but come March 16, Delhi designer Varun Bahl will delve into his diffusion roots and make a comeback to the India Fashion Week ramp after nearly six years. The designer will present the opening show at the Autumn-Winter 2016 edition of Amazon India Fashion Week (March 16-20), slated to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, Delhi.

After a brief interlude at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014, where he last showcased his diffusion line, Bahl’s big comeback to the Delhi ramp will tell his trademark flower power story, but in a contemporary context. “I felt like it was time to come back. I have spent the last few years structuring my business and planning things and I’m ready now,” says Bahl. “The diffusion collection is an essentially global collection for the woman of today,” he says. Expect to see a lot of layering, separates that afford mix-and-match possibilities and trans-seasonal wearability. “It will be a mix of seasonal statements, since that’s where the world seems to be heading now,” he adds.

As always, Bahl’s signature floral embroideries and embellishments will be the stars of the show. “Since the emphasis will be on textures, the silhouettes will be clean. My work is all about balance and proportion,” Bahl adds. For now, he’s not willing to reveal too much, but he does have a few surprises up his sleeve. This will be the first time Bahl will work with Indian textiles, namely brocade, in his diffusion line.
