Singer and TV host Aditya Narayan recently opened up about his family life, following in his father’s footsteps, the renowned singer Udit Narayan, and building his 12-foot ceiling house in Mumbai. “Sacch baat toh yeh hai, main confess karna chahunga, our generation must accept one thing — ki 90 per cent of what our parents said, unhone sahi kaha. Hum pehle haste the, jab mere pitaji ghaas par chappal nikaal kar chalte the na, main bolta tha, ‘kya kar rahe hai? Subah subah half pant aur ganji me chalte the. Aab usko grounding/Earthing bolte hai. Main bhi chappal nikaal kar subah subah 15-20 minute ka walk karta hun…ab bolte hai..organic khao…(Our parents were right all through. We used to laugh looking at our father when he walked barefoot on the grass in a ganji and shorts. Now, I also do the same. They always say, eat organic. They are right,” said the Akele Hum Akele Tum song singer.

Speaking to Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa on their podcast, he admitted that everything should be done in its own time, including marriage and childbirth. “Toh woh actually sahi the…iss liye bolte the jaldi shaadi karlo, jaldi bacche karlo…

He also shared that he loves staying at home. “Mujhe ghar par rehna bahut acha lagta hai. Ek toh itna khoobsurat ghar liya hai (touchwood), ghar par baithkar…ghar dekhta hun…admire karta hun…meri 12 foot ki ceiling hai…toh main upar dekhta rehta hun (I like staying home. With God’s grace, I have been able to buy a beautiful, 12-foot ceiling house. So, I admire that all the time),” the 38-year-old continued.

Taking a cue from his candid admission, let’s explore whether walking barefoot on grass every day for 15-20 minutes is beneficial for you.

Dr Amit Saraf, Director of Internal Medicine at Jupiter Hospital, Thane, concurred that barefoot walking on grass each morning for 15–20 minutes is a ritual some people swear by. “Beyond its soothing ritualistic value, the habit is said to ground the body in nature and provide unexpected health benefits,” said Dr Saraf, adding that “grounding” or “Earthing” is reported to equalise the body’s natural rhythms.

According to Dr Saraf, walking barefoot on grass regularly is thought to

*Minimise stress by soothing the nervous system.
*Increase blood circulation because your feet are actively working with the uneven terrain.
*Help improve the quality of sleep as it causes the body to relax.
*Help the mood, as exposure to nature and fresh air can elevate serotonin levels.
*Help joint health as it engages muscles and stabilisers in the legs and feet.

What should one remember before making it a regular habit?

Although it is a safe practice, one must avoid walking on pesticide-treated lawns to escape infections or cuts, said Dr Saraf.

“Diabetics and people who are sensitive to nerves should also exercise special caution in avoiding cuts or unseen wounds. Early morning is the best time to walk, as the dew keeps the grass fresh, the atmosphere is fresher, and sunlight brings a very healthy vitamin D,” said Dr Saraf.
