Tension gripped Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on Friday following the discovery of the bodies of a groom and a married woman on a railway track in neighbouring Barabanki district on Thursday. An FIR is yet to be registered in the matter.
The deceased were identified as neighbours Shailendra Kumar Dubey, 25, and Mahe Nigar, 23, who belonged to different communities. The two had been missing from their homes in Ayodhya’s Pakaria village since Wednesday, said Asha Shukla, Station House Officer of Mawai police station. Heavy police presence has been deployed in Pakaria village.
Though no suicide note was found at the scene, the police said it prima facie appeared that the two jumped in front of a moving train at Masauli in Barabanki, around 40 km from their homes. The exact reason behind their deaths can be determined only after the postmortem report is available, Shukla added.
Initial inquiry revealed that the two were in a relationship for the last six years but their families were against it. Shailendra, a farmer, was set to have a ’tilak’ ceremony at his home on Friday as his wedding had been arranged, said a police officer.
Mahe, on the other hand, had been married to Ibrar Ahmed from Amethi for two years. He works in Saudi Arabia. She had been residing with her parents in Ayodhya for the past few months.
According to Ayodhya police, on Thursday Shailendra’s uncle Hari Saran Dubey received information that two bodies were discovered on a railway track and one of them had the man’s Aadhaar card on it. He rushed to Barabanki with two others and identified the bodies. Shailendra’s motorcycle was also found near the railway track.
The woman’s family was then notified and both bodies were sent for postmortem examination before being handed over to their respective families for the final rites.
