India and China on Tuesday agreed that any “Depsang-like incident” should not happen again since it adversely impacts the bilateral relations between the two countries, according to sources.

This was the key takeaway from the two days of border talks between the two Special Representatives — National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi.

MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, “The Special Representatives elaborated on possible additional confidence-building measures, including the early implementation of the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA).” At the 17th round of the Special Representative talks, the two sides held elaborate discussions on ways to ensure peace on the border, besides discussing overall bilateral relations and international and regional issues.
