Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s daughter Anita Bose Pfaff welcomed the PM’s decision to declassify files related to her father and said these files are not a family matter but in the larger public interest.
“Demanding access to historic files is not a family matter but in the interest of the public at large. Netaji is not my or my family’s property but part of the Indian heritage,” she said.
Anita, who is based in Germany, said she expected the files, both of the Indian and the foreign governments, to reveal “a wide range of information — from smaller insignificant facts of interest to some rather surprising facts”.

“Maybe it will also shed new light on some actions of historical persons which will make them appear less than gracious. This would explain why the files were not declassified earlier…”
Although she was invited by nephew Krishna Bose, she and her husband could not come for the meeting with the PM as she is currently involved in coordinating volunteer refugee relief work in Germany. She said the PM has already given her an appointment during her next visit to India, where she will “thank him for his decision”.
