Mirzapur season 3 trailer: ‘Violence humara USP hai,’ says Guddu Pandit, as Kaleen Bhaiya promises to rewrite history

Mirzapur 3 trailer: The third season of the Prime Video will unleash more violence than ever before, with Pankaj Tripathi's Kaleen Bhaiya offering a chilling warning to his rivals and Ali Fazal's Guddu Bhaiya on rampage.

“Maza aa raha hai (I’m having fun),” screams Guddu Pandit in the trailer for Mirzapur season 3, as he challenges prison cops to a showdown after having unleashed violence around him. The gangster seems to be making major moves to consolidate power in the lawless world of Mirzapur, as a bevy of opponents closes in. The new season of Prime Video’s show takes viewers back to the “dark and brutal world of crime and power in Purvanchal,” as it builds on the “spine-chilling climax” of season two.

Few Indian streaming shows enjoy the kind of cult fan following that the show and its c0lourful characters have achieved in the six years since its debut in 2018. The new trailer opens with glimpses of every major character that has been killed on the show, as the world of politics and crime collides. Guddu continues to cause chaos around him, as cops and intelligence agencies try to pin him down and his own father testifies against him in court.

The violence is in your face, as is the swearing. There has been criticism in recent years about the degree of profanity and gore shown on streaming, and Mirzapur is often seen as the show that set the ball rolling for hinterland crime dramas in India. But the truth is that Mirzapur is also beloved, and has a massive audience that has been patiently waiting for this new season. Almost as if to keep them waiting a little while longer, the new trailer doesn’t reveal Pankaj Tripathi’s breakout character Kaleen Bhaiya until the very end. He steps into frame imposingly, offering blessings to his followers. “Yeh gaddi, yeh parampara… Bauji aur humne banayi thi… Hum woh karwayenge jo Purvanchal ke itihaas mein aaj tak nahi hua (I’ll do something that nobody has done in the history of Purvanchal),” he says menacingly.

Meanwhile, his crew works to generate “sympathy” for Kaleen Bhaiya among the populace, as a rival politician aims to throttle his bid for power. Director and executive producer Gurmmeet Singh said in a statement, “The first two seasons of Mirzapur proved to be game changers for the crime thriller genre in the streaming space in India. With Mirzapur 3, we strive to build on the momentum and take the narrative to a whole new level, exploring new facets and dimensions of each character’s life replete with new plot twists. We are incredibly excited for fans to witness the showdown for Mirzapur’s throne unfold in the new season. The stakes have gone notches higher and the canvas has surely become bigger. After a hiatus of three and a half years, we, just like our viewers, cannot wait for the global premiere of Mirzapur 3 on Prime Video.”

Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal, Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar, Anjumm Shharma, Priyanshu Painyuli and Harshita Shekhar Gaur in lead roles, along with Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chadha, Meghna Malik, and Manu Rishi Chadha in supporting roles, Mirzapur 3 will be released on July 5.
