Telugu actor Varun Tej recently opened up about the close bond he shares with his cousins, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun, reminiscing about their childhood and how his uncle Chiranjeevi played a key role in keeping the family united. Varun shared that Chiranjeevi held mandatory Sunday meet-ups at his home, which helped the cousins stay connected over the years. He fondly referred to Chiranjeevi as the “headmaster” of the Konidela–Allu family, humorously recalling how he would even discipline Ram Charan and Allu Arjun when they were kids.
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Varun said, “I am a tad bit closer to Charan anna because we grew up in the same house. If I have any 3 am problem, he is my go-to person.” Varun acknowledged that as adults with busy schedules, they no longer meet as often as they used to. At times, months pass without them seeing each other. Yet, they all make it a point to attend the annual Sankranthi event organised by Chiranjeevi. “Every year my uncle organises Sankranthi event and he brings all the cousins at the same place and we have a blast for 3-4 days. Whenever we meet, we pick it up from the last time,” he said. Varun added that as kids, Chiranjeevi’s Sunday meetups were a family tradition, which helped keep the cousins and the entire family tightly knit.
Reflecting on their upbringing, Varun shared that despite growing up in privilege, Chiranjeevi ensured they stayed grounded. “Mr Chiranjeevi never let us turn into brats. He has the greatest role in making us humble. He has always kept us in check and on ground. He is like the headmaster. We listen to whatever he says. He has been the guiding force for the entire family.” Varun also humorously added, “He has probably whipped all three of us in three different time zones at three different places.”
