Actor Dilip Joshi recently opened up about the difficult phase of his life when his expenses were multiplying but he had no work in hand. He thinks being offered Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah at such a difficult phase of life was nothing less than a ‘miracle’.
Joshi, popular as Jethalal in TMKOC, shared how in 2007 he was out of work and had to look after the education and needs of his two children. At that time, he was offered the comedy show Comedy Circus, but he refused to do it as the concept of the show didn’t sit well with his principles.
Dilip Joshi, in the latest episode of The Bombay Journey, shared, “In 2007, I was doing a play which came to an end and I was doing a TV serial which also got shut. For the first time, this period came in my life where I was getting calls for work and I had no work. I have two children, and their fees needed to be paid, expenses were just multiplying. It was a very difficult period. After acting for so many years, I had no clue which line I should go into. I don’t know anything besides acting.”
He continued, “I was in need of money and it was then that I got offered Comedy Circus. Most of their jokes were below the belt, and they were paying well also. But I thought I have never done such kind of work since I have always maintained that I should do that kind of work which my family can watch together and be proud of whatever I do. So, I refused.”
However, the actor thinks with God’s grace he got offered the sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah within a month. “After refusing that show (Comedy Circus), I got the offer for Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah within a month and a half. It was a miracle,” said Joshi.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been running successfully on television since 2008. Dilip Joshi has been a pivotal part of the show from the very beginning.
