The shooting for the biopic of late actor-turned-politician MG Ramachandran started on Friday, flagged off by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy at Chennai. The film is being produced by Rama Communication and will have actors Sathishkumar and S.S. Stanley play the roles of MGR and C.Anna Durai, respectively. According to a report in The Hindu, auditions to finalise the actors playing J Jayalalithaa and Janaki Ammal is in process. The film is expected to complete shoot in a couple of months and the makers are looking to release the same during April 2018. However, the teaser of the film will be unveiled on the birth anniversary of MGR on January 17, 2018. The script has been written by Chembur Jayaraj.
Tamil Development Minister ‘Ma Foi’ K. Pandiarajan, Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar, Information Minister Kadambur Raju, AIADMK MP P. Venugopal, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan and senior officials were also present during the launch. Notably, the anniversary also marks the birth centenary of MGR.
While there hasn’t been a biopic on the politician, Mani Rathnam’s Iruvar is said to be loosely based on the stories of MGR, Karunanidhi and J Jayalalithaa. The film featured Mohanlal, Prakashraj, Aishwarya Rai, Gautami and Tabu among others and was critically acclaimed.
