Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee and actor Saswata Chatterjee of “Kahaani” fame were today felicitated by the West Bengal government.
At a function of the West Bengal Tele Academy, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave away the awards to honour artistes working in the Bengal television industry.
Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Soumitra, who is also acting in a TV serial, was given the Hall of Fame award. He was, however, not present to receive the award in person as he was not in town.
During the function it was announced that Chatterjee had written to the chief minister accepting the award.
Saswata, a well-known name in Bengali film and TV industry was given the lifetime achievement award.
Others who got the Hall of Fame award were actors Sabitri Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee and Sabyasachi Chakraborty.
“It is known as the idiot box but I know I think it has become an intelligent box as everyone watches it,” the CM said at the award function.
