Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 27: Rishab Shetty’s period action epic continues to hit more milestones slowly and surely even as it closes in on a month since release and nearing its OTT release this Friday. It’s all set to cross two more benchmarks before it makes its streaming debut — surpass the lifetime earnings of Amar Kaushik’s blockbuster horror comedy Stree 2 of last year and enter the coveted Rs 600 crore club. It has earned Rs 596.5 crore in India and Rs 855 crore worldwide.
On Tuesday, its 27th day at the domestic box office, Kantara: Chapter 1 earned Rs 3.65 crore across all languages, a slight improvement on its collection on Monday (day 26) at Rs 3.25 crore. Prior to that, the film still hit double digits even on its fourth Sunday (day 25) as it amassed Rs 10.40 crore, another improvement on its Saturday (day 24) earnings of Rs 9 crore.
As per Sacnilk, Kantara: Chapter 1 earned Rs 337.40 crore in its opening week, Rs 147.85 crore in its second week, and Rs 78.85 crore in the third week. Its fourth week is likely to conclude at around the Rs 37 crore mark. In the process, it’ll surpass the lifetime domestic earnings of Stree 2, which amassed Rs 597.99 crore last year to become the highest grossing Hindi film of all time in India.
Although Prime Video India has announced that Kantara: Chapter 1 will premiere on the platform this Friday on October 31 merely four weeks after its theatrical release, it’s likely to retain some momentum in cinemas and enter the Rs 600 crore club this week. In the process, it’ll become the only film besides Laxman Utekar’s period action drama Chhaaava to achieve the feat since the latter, starring Vicky Kaushal, amassed Rs 601.54 crore earlier this year.
Also, it’s only the original Kannada version, and the dubbed Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam versions, that are dropping on Prime Video India this Friday. As per the agreement between theatres and OTT platforms, the dubbed Hindi version will not release on streaming in another four weeks. That’ll prove to be an advantage since it’s the Hindi version that’s dominating the box office earnings of Kantara: Chapter 1 all this while.
The Hindi version of Kantara: Chapter 1 has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark, earning Rs 209.60 crore so far. Meanwhile, the original Kannada version has dropped down to earning in lakhs every day, amassing Rs 192 crore at the domestic box office so far. Given its trajectory and impending OTT release, it’s unlikely the Kannada version will cross the Rs 200 crore mark.
Worldwide, Kantara: Chapter 1 has crossed the Rs 850 crore mark, earning over Rs 855 crore across almost four weeks since its global release. It’s already become the highest-grossing film of 2025, beating Chhaava, which accumulated Rs 807.91 crore globally earlier this year. However, it’s still at the 14th spot in terms of the highest grossing Indian movies worldwide, behind Stree 2, which amassed Rs 857.15 crore last year. It’s likely to close the records today globally.
Kantara: Chapter 1 may have outperformed its first part, Shetty’s 2022 blockbuster Kantara, in terms of overall box office collection, but its original Kannada version has earned a little over half of that of Kantara, which amassed Rs 407.82 crore worldwide, the only Kannada film to do so yet. It’s also entered the Rs 200 crore club globally, with Prashanth Neel’s 2022 period action film KGF: Chapter 2 being the first Kannada film to achieve the feat.
