Selena Gomez and her fiancé Benny Blanco definitely aren’t the type to make others wait at a party. However, the singer recently shared an awkward moment they had at one of Taylor Swift’s parties when they showed up, only to realise they were among the first to arrive. Recalling the funny experience on Wednesday’s episode of Spotify’s Countdown To podcast, Selena admitted that while she found it “kind of cute,” she also couldn’t help but feel a little “mortified.”
“Apparently cool people don’t show up to parties on time,” she joked, poking fun at her own habit of being punctual.
Swift and Gomez go way back, and the two are often spotted hanging out whenever the Cruel Summer singer is in NYC. Whether it’s a girls’ night out or a cosy dinner, they’ve got their friendship routines down. And now, with music producer Benny Blanco in the picture, he’s been tagging along to a few of Swift’s hosted parties too.
The couple, who got engaged in December, spoke about one particular moment from one of Swift’s post-award show parties. “As a couple, we went to Taylor’s party after some awards show,” Selena recalled. “And we were basically the first people there.” Blanco, teasing his partner, added, “We’re the first people at every single party when I go with you,” he laughed. “You show up when my mom shows up to a party.”
Blanco also reminded Selena that, back then, they were still keeping their relationship under wraps. “We didn’t even, like, touch each other or really look at each other,” he said. And yet, when other women came up to chat with him, Selena’s protective side made an appearance. “You were like, ‘Hmm,’” he teased. Selena quickly shut it down with a grin, saying, “No! Stop, don’t say that.” It’s still unclear which of Swift’s parties they were talking about, but fans will remember the couple being spotted together in New York during the Fortnight singer’s birthday celebrations back in December 2023.
During their appearance on Hot Ones, which aired a day before the release of their joint album I Said I Love You First, Blanco admitted that before dating Selena, he wasn’t exactly deep into Taylor Swift’s discography. “I honestly didn’t know … before we started dating,” he said. “Obviously, I was aware of Taylor Swift’s music, but I wasn’t like a true Swiftie until I was with Selena,” he said.
Now, though? “I’ll be like, ‘Put that song on. How’s that one go again?’ And we’re in the car, and I’m just singing Taylor Swift songs from 10 years ago and I feel free,” Blanco laughed. “They’re timeless, what can I say,” Selena added.

According to Billboard, the couple’s Hot Ones episode was also a promo moment for their upcoming album. I Said I Love You First, featuring singles like “Scared of Loving You” and “Sunset Blvd,” drops this Friday. Selena revealed working with Benny on the project was different from anything she’s experienced before. “I felt like I could tell him things that maybe I was feeling insecure about,” she shared, “that I wouldn’t feel like I could open up to any other producer that way—let alone like a partner.”
