Grammy Award-winning American pop rock band Maroon 5 made their India debut with a power-packed performance at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course on Tuesday. The concert, which was part of their world tour, saw the band perform some of their biggest hits, including “Girls Like You” and “Moves Like Jagger”.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came when frontman Adam Levine invited an emotional fan, Suman, on stage. Suman, who was visibly overwhelmed, hugged Levine and thanked him for being a part of her life’s journey. “I love all your songs. You’ve been the journey of my life. Thank you so much,” she said, as Levine hugged her back and thanked her for her kind words.

The band, which was originally formed in 1994 as Kara’s Flowers, has evolved into a pop-rock powerhouse over the years. Their debut album, “Songs About Jane”, won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. The band’s current lineup includes Adam Levine (vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboard), James Valentine (guitar), Matt Flynn (drums), PJ Morton (keyboard), and Sam Farrar (bass).

In a behind-the-scenes video posted by the concert organisers, BookMyShow, the band members expressed their love for Mumbai and India. “We love India, we have been here once before, quickly, this is our first real show with the band. So we are stoked to be here,” they said. When asked what took them so long to perform in India, they replied, “It’s exciting when people see us for the first time, because most people who know us from the records and the live shows is a little bit different. It’s a little more high energy, more rock and roll.”

The concert was attended by several celebrities from the Indian film industry, including Telugu actress Kajal Agarwal and her husband, Ritwik Bhowmik and others. The official Instagram handle of the band reposted several fan videos and photos from the concert, including a cute video of a kid listening to Maroon 5’s “Animals” at home, with the caption stating, “Alas, wish there was no age limit for @maroon5’s Mumbai concert today (laughing with tears emoji).”

Maroon 5’s maiden performance in India dates back to 2019, but it wasn’t a public concert. Instead, the band performed at a private event in Mumbai, specifically at the wedding reception of Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s son Akash Ambani and his bride Shloka Mehta.
