RD Burman’s 75th birth anniversary: Listen to collection of some of his best melodies

Considered as one of the greatest Indian film music directors of all time, R. D. Burman is remembered for redefining the very term ‘music’ with his imaginative fusion compositions that are a hit even today.

R. D. Burman introduced an electronic rock element in his songs, often mixing disco and Bengali folk music.

Fondly known as Pancham Da, R. D. Burman composed his first song, ‘Aye meri topi palat ke aa’, which his father S D Burman used in the film ‘Funtoosh’.

In 1970, he composed the music for Dev Anand’s ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ (1971). ‘Dum Maro Dum’, sung by Asha Bhosle from this film became the hippie anthem in the Hindi film music industry.

‘Raina Beeti Jaaye’ sung by Asha Bhosle for ‘Amar Prem’ is considered to be a classical treasure.

‘Mera Kuchh Saamaan’ from the film ‘Ijaazat’ is also a popular song. It remains as one of singer Asha Bhosle’s most popular and personal favourite tracks.
