Knowing well that they can’t control others’ tongues and that people will gossip about them no matter what, most celebrities have learned how to be thick-skinned over the years and tune out what they ought to ignore. However, there are times when even the most unflappable lose their cool when people go too far and spread disgustingly baseless speculations about them, affecting not just their tranquillity but also certain real-life bonds.

Renowned playback singer Ranjini Jose recently addressed one such unfounded rumour about her that has been doing the rounds for quite some time. Refuting claims that she is dating fellow playback singer Vijay Yesudas, the son of music legend KJ Yesudas, Ranjini emphasised that they have, nonetheless, been close friends for a long time.

In a recent appearance on television presenter and YouTuber Ranjini Haridas’ podcast, Ranjini Jose said, “Now, people are sometimes insensitive. To give an example, one only needs to look at the online news that linked me and Vijay Yesudas after COVID. I reacted when they regularly started writing insensitive things. Many people supported me back then. The news was that Vijay and I were dating. He has been my friend since childhood.”

Despite the rumours, Ranjini and Vijay have never shied away from publicly expressing their friendship and love for each other, sharing social media posts and collaborating professionally whenever they have the chance. “We have been friends since the 10th grade. Why should I be dating Vijay? He is my best friend. Vijay Yesudas is someone I would never want to date,” she asserted. Ranjini and Vijay are currently divorced from their respective spouses.

During the conversation, both Ranjinis, who are very close friends in life, also addressed speculations about their sexuality and whether they are romantically involved with each other in a lesbian relationship. Ranjini Jose said, “It was said that Ranjini (Haridas) and I were a lesbian couple. They want to know what is happening in other people’s lives. One morning, I woke up and saw a thumbnail. It had Ranjini on one side and me on the other. We had done a photoshoot for Grihalakshmi. They had created the thumbnail by splitting that photo. Then, in the middle, there was a photo of two girls with blurred faces kissing. And the caption read, ‘Are they lesbians..?’ I went crazy. The issue with Vijay had just ended, and then this came up. I had sent it to Ranjini.”

Clarifying that she had no issue with homosexuality, Ranjini maintained that what irked her were people penning baseless speculations about her in gossip columns.
