Proving that 2024 was one of the most successful years in the history of Malayalam cinema, director Haneef Adeni’s Marco, starring Unni Mukundan in the titular role, has surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark in worldwide gross. Marco, which hit screens on December 20, was the second-last Malayalam release of 2024. With a cast that includes Siddique, Yukti Thareja, Jagadish, Abhimanyu Thilakan, Anson Paul and Kabir Duhan Singh, the film had gained attention as the “most violent Indian movie” to date, sparking widespread debate since its premiere.
Taking to social media on Sunday, production house Cubes Entertainments announced that Marco had entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club just 15 days after its global debut. This achievement makes the Unni Mukundan-led film the sixth Malayalam release of 2024 to reach this milestone, joining Manjummel Boys (Rs 240.5 crore), Aadujeevitham (Rs 157.35 crore), Aavesham (Rs 154.79 crore), Premalu (Rs 131.18 crore) and Ajayante Randam Moshanam (Rs 107.3 crore), as per figures shared by industry tracker Sacnilk.
Currently, the Haneef Adeni directorial is also gearing up for a release in South Korea, with expectations of securing the biggest opening for an Indian movie in the East Asian country. On Friday, Marco had set a record for the highest number of shows and screens for a movie in India that day. Furthermore, the action thriller set a new benchmark in the Telugu-speaking states a day prior by becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever on its release day, earning Rs 1.75 crore.
Produced by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, Marco features music and background score by Ravi Basrur, with stunts choreographed by Kalai Kingson, cinematography handled by Chandru Selvaraj and editing by Shameer Muhammed.
