American actor David Corenswet is the new Superman. On Tuesday, filmmaker James Gunn announced Corenswet will play Superman in his film Superman: Legacy.

Corenswet started acting at the age of nine and graduated from The Juilliard School in 2016. After graduating, the actor took up a few guest roles in television series.

David Corenswet acted in a 2017 episode of the American procedural drama Elementary and also featured in House of Cards in 2018. His breakthrough role came in the 2019 series The Politician. Though his character River died by suicide in the series, Corenswet was so appreciated that he became a regular on the show and started featuring in the flashback sequences of the series.

Ryan Murphy then hired him for his series Hollywood, where he impressed as Jack Costello, an aspiring actor. In the year 2022, he became a regular face on the screen as he starred in HBO original series We Own This City, along with Jon Bernthal and Josh Charles. His other two projects that year were the Netflix rom-com Look Both Ways and Pearl opposite Mia Goth.

In May 2023, David Corenswet was cast in Lee Isaac Chung’s epic disaster drama Twisters. The film is scheduled to release on July 19, 2024.

Corenswet comes from a family of lawyers. However, before becoming a lawyer, his father worked as a stage actor.

Superman: Legacy deals with Superman’s journey to make sense of both his aristocratic Kryptonian heritage and his small-town, midwestern upbringing as Clark Kent. The film is set for a July 11, 2025 release.
