Mufasa The Lion King box office collection: Mufasa: The Lion King has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the animated film only took 11 days to achieve this feat.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, the movie hit Indian theatres on December 11. It was released in four languages in the country, including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The story follows a young Mufasa, lost in the wilderness with no pride to call his own. He meets Taka, another young lion, who is the heir to a royal bloodline. Their friendship sets in motion a journey that affects both of their lives drastically, for better or worse.

Mufasa: The Lion King started strong in English and Hindi, with Tamil and Telugu trailing behind. By the end of the first week, the Hindi collections were at par with English. As of now, the English and Hindi box office collections stand at Rs 37 crore each, with Tamil and Telugu at Rs 18 and Rs 14 crore, respectively.

A strong reception was always expected for such a beloved story, but it is interesting to see the numbers the movie has put up in regional languages.

Mufasa: The Lion King received mixed reviews. SCREEN’s Shalini Langer wrote in her review, “This film directed by Jenkins of Moonlight fame has a lot going on, from giving us at least three back stories (of Mufasa, Scar and Rafiki), to lessons on what real courage and real royalty means, to a blossoming romance that comes accompanied with a song. If the melange of landscapes and the different prides of lions, mostly in conflict with other, confuses things a bit, the songs are a letdown too — nowhere close to the magic of those 1994 film’s evergreen numbers.”
