The Tom Cruise-starrer Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One had a strong opening in India on Wednesday, with the film collecting Rs 12.3 crore, but on its second day, the film witnessed a 25 percent drop in its collections. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Dead Reckoning Part One collected an estimated Rs 9-9.50 crore on Thursday. This takes the film’s total nett collection to Rs 21 crore in India in two days, which is higher than many Bollywood titles have managed. The tracker reported that the film’s five-day opening weekend collection could reach Rs 60 crore in India.
Globally, Mission Impossible 7 started off with a $19.3 million opening day, as per Box Office Mojo. The domestic collection in the US amounts for 80 percent of that share, with 20 percent coming in from international markets. Variety shared that the opening extended weekend of the film is expected to bring in $250 million worldwide.
Even if the film manages to make $250 million in the opening weekend, the film’s numbers will be closely watched as its budget is reported to be $290 million, as per the publication. Costs ballooned because of the film’s prolonged production due to the pandemic. However, since the two parts of the film were shot simultaneously, at least in part, Dead Reckoning Part Two’s cost was significantly lesser.
The last big Hollywood release in India, Fast X, also had a double digit opening weekend in India making Rs 11.90 crore nett. The film eventually earned Rs 108.83 crore during its lifetime run here, as per Bollywood Hungama.
This year, not many films in India have had a double digit opening. In fact, the only films that made more money than Mission Impossible 7 on opening day were Pathaan (Rs 57 crore), Adipurush (Rs 36 crore), Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan (Rs 15.81) and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (Rs 15.73 crore).
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One got a 2.5 star rating from The Indian Express’ Shalini Langer. “As if resorting to the irritating and, frankly, greedy trend of splitting a film into two is not enough, as if the interminable length of 164 minutes of this part is not enough, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One fills up the time with endless talk,” read a part of her review.
