Actor Orlando Bloom is certainly having a whirlwind of a year. First he and singer Katy Perry announced their breakup after six years of engagement. Bloom has also been patiently waiting for the release of his film Cut, for which he underwent an extreme transformation. Now Legolas from Lord of the Rings has decided to rekindle his relationship with the country of Ireland and has applied for an Irish passport.
While talking to Virgin Radio, Orlando Bloom revealed his connection to the Emerald Isle and said, “I’m getting my Irish passport. [My grandfather] was actually from Northern Ireland.” While the host of the interview joked that a lot of people have been applying for other passports since Brexit, Orlando explained that the move is mainly for a professional reason. Part of it was actually just for work, like, when I was working in Prague for a while, there was a whole bunch of new paperwork. And also, I love the fact that I’ve got Irish heritage. That’s all it is.”
However, this does seem connected to Orlando Bloom’s career a tad bit more than he let on, as he is playing an Irish boxer in The Cut. The actor revealed that he had to drop 52 pounds for the role and told the host and audience over at This Morning about the regime he had to adopt in order to achieve such a feat. He said, “I was exhausted mentally and physically. I was hangry. I was a horrible person to be around. The paranoia, the intrusive thoughts. I wouldn’t recommend doing it at home; it would not be something to take lightly.” The actor added that he was just eating tuna and cucumber for the last three weeks of shooting and that he had no “brain power” left.
On the personal front, Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry have decided to keep things civil and still appear as a family for the sake of their daughter Daisy. The couple met nine years ago during the Golden Globes and got engaged in 2019. They both own several properties together, including their Montecito mansion worth $14.2 million (Rs 125 crore), according to Architectural Digest.
