South African comedian Trevor Noah is best known for his seven-year stint on The Daily Show. However, he has also built an impressive body of work as a stand-up comedian, who travels around the world with his wit as the shield, dipping into his experience of various cultures, including his favourite – India.

The 39-year-old comedian, who is coming to India for the first time as part of his Off The Record Comedy Tour, has shared several times how he had a strong influence on Indian culture while growing up.

In his 2017 on-stage gig called Trevor Noah: Afraid of The Dark, he enacted a conversation between an Indian man and British soldiers when they came to invade India. Supporting his gig through Indian accent, body movement, and the infamous Indian bob, Trevor entertained the audience by explaining how Indians reacted when “Great Britain” came to rule them.

Trevor Noah’s love for Indian curries

Trevor, in his 2022 set “I Wish You Would”, has a lot of content with Indian references. He spoke about Indian food and his love of Indian curries as part of a long onstage set. He explained in a set recorded in Toronto, Canada, and said, “I grew up in South Africa and what people don’t know is that South Africa has one of the largest Indian populations outside of India. I know Canada’s number one now but when I was growing up, we had the single largest population of India outside of India….” The comedian also recalled his best friend Theesan Pillai who was an Indian and responsible for introducing Trevor to Indian curry.

The Primetime Emmy award winner is coming to India as part of his show, which is produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live. While his onstage gigs have always had a heavy dose of Indian culture in it, The Daily Show With Trevor Noah also made several headlines for his reaction to Indian social issues

Commenting on his India Tour, Trevor had earlier said in a statement, “After a lifetime of loving India’s culture, I’m so excited to finally have the privilege of bringing my current stand-up comedy tour to one of the most exciting countries in the world!”
