When Dharmendra said Hema Malini ‘sacrificed to give happiness to others’, at the cost of her emotions

Dharmendra and Hema Malini have been married for over four decades now. When the couple first tied the knot, there were many who raised their eyebrows as the action star was already married at the time to Prakash Kaur and they had four kids together – Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeeta Deol and Vijayta Deol. Yet, when Dharamendra and Hema got married, the couple decided to live in the same area, but Dharmendra continued to live with his first family.

Over the years, Hema has said that she was never jealous of Dharmendra’s first wife and he too, acknowledged the sacrifices she made for the happiness of their families and kids. During Hema Malini’s episode of Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, Dharmendra said a few words about her “non demanding” nature and said that she has “sacrificed” a lot.

He said, “You are a picture of dignity. You are non-demanding. You never harmed anyone” and added, “Because I am an extremely emotional person so I can say you have sacrificed a lot to give happiness to everyone around you sometimes at the cost of your own emotions.”

During Hema’s appearance on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, the host asked her if she ever got jealous of Dharmendra’s first wife. Hema said, “Not at all. That’s why I am the happiest person today” and added, “In love, you are only supposed to give and not demand things. You love the person so much and you have got so much love from the person, so how can you torture your person for these small petty things?”

She continued, “That’s the reason I never bothered, irritated or tortured him. I want the love to continue so that is how we still love each other today, nothing can come in between us. I understand his problems, so I adjust everything according to him for which he loves me more. When I give so much, you get so much. So, love is that. You have to give respect to love.”

Dharmendra and Hema are parents to Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
