Interviewing Shah Rukh Khan is every journalist’s dream — not just because he is an actor par excellence, but also due to his candid, witty and effortlessly charming off-screen persona, which has made him a favourite among scribes as well. In fact, even actor Ayushmann Khurrana once dreamed of interviewing Bollywood’s Baadshah during his time as a radio personality-cum-journalist. Although he came extremely close to the opportunity, luck was not on his side, and it never materialised, leaving him disappointed. But little did Ayushmann know that the tables would eventually turn and he would go on to share the stage with SRK, hosting prestigious award shows alongside him.

Recently, Ayushmann revisited the memory and recalled his emotions upon realising that his long-anticipated interview with SRK would not take place, despite waiting nearly four to five hours for the superstar. In a conversation with Galatta Plus, he was asked what he would have asked SRK had the interview actually happened. Ayushmann replied, “It was a different me at that time. I would have asked for a role probably; I was a struggling actor. ‘Sir, mujhe role dedo; main actor banana chaahata hu‘.”

He continued, “I had written a note for him as well. I went to Powai, where he was shooting for a car commercial. I wrote, ‘Dear sir, I’m a huge fan. I met you at Kasol in Himachal during my first-ever vacation with my family at a hill station. You were wearing a red suit, shooting for Maya Memsaab (1993), and I was that kid in denim shorts. Now I’m 22 and want to be an actor.’ I gave the note to an assistant, but don’t know if he ever got it or not.”

“I knew I couldn’t take the interview then because he was busy. I was supposed to get like half-an-hour slot or something. I waited for like four to five hours, but he was busy with the ad,” Ayushmann shared, adding that he later told SRK this story. “I told him about the note, but he said he never got it. The AD must have taken a glance at it and thrown it away,” the actor, who was last seen in Dream Girl 2 (2023), added.
