The Indian cricket team brought the Champions Trophy back to the country after 12 years by winning the finals against New Zealand in Dubai. Congratulatory messages were flowing left, right, and centre for the Indian team that were unbeaten throughout the tournament with every player chipping in with a significant contribution throughout the series. In a country where cinema and cricket are the most important unifying factors, it has often been seen that the glitz of cricket and the glamour of cinema go hand-in-hand. It was no different this time around either, and this melange of the two fields happened right on the ground when visuals of former Indian captain Virat Kohli running into the stands to hug his wife and actor-filmmaker Anushka Sharma started getting viral on social media.
KL Rahul, who had a brilliant tournament, found his constant source of encouragement and support from home as his wife and actor Athiya Shetty shared a wish for the cricketer, and used his own post-match press interaction line, “At the end, I was sh&*ting myself.”
During the match in Dubai, we had celebrities like Vivek Oberoi in attendance. The Saathiya actor, who has settled down in Dubai, was sitting a row ahead of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and RJ Mahvash. This added fuel to the speculations that Chahal, who is rumoured to have divorced Dhanashree Verma, is now dating Mahvash. However, when such speculations surfaced in December last year, Mahvash had said, “Some articles and speculations have been circulating around the internet. It’s literally funny to see how baseless these rumours are. If you get seen with a person of the opposite gender, does it mean you are dating them? I’m sorry, what year is this? I won’t let any PR teams drag my name to cover up other people’s images. Let people live in peace with their friends and family during tough times.”
Leaving these aside, Vivek Oberoi’s heartwarming question to Yuzvendra about India’s chances at the innings break, was answered with a ‘We will definitely win,’ and that’s exactly what happened in this closely contested match worthy of a Champions Trophy final.
The Aligarh-born social media influencer is also an RJ and budding actor. She is supposed to make her acting debut in an Amazon mini series. She is known for her prank videos and relatable content on social media.
After the India vs New Zealand match, she also shared a video with Yuzvendra and wrote, “Kaha tha na jita ke aungi😝😍 I am good luck for team India (I said I will return after Ihelp India win. I am good luck for Team India)!.”
From India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to celebrities like Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Bobby Deol, and Abhishek Bachchan, and former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Indian cricket team received a lot of congratulatory messages.
While Ajay Devgn won the internet with his choice of video and caption, which included him invoking Kajol’s vibe from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Sunil Gavaskar’s quick dance moves on the Dubai ground was the talk of the town too.
With this victory, India has won back-to-back ICC trophies, after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, and it has cemented the legacy of Rohit Sharma as one of the greatest Indian captains.
