A popular myth goes that if a scorpion bites someone, they will die, unless a scorpion-singer sings her song and cures them. Death can perhaps be cured, but is there a cure for love? The trailer of actor Irrfan Khan’s The Song of Scorpions was unveiled on Wednesday. The film is set to hit the theatres on April 28 ahead of the beloved actor’s third death anniversary.

Directed by Anup Singh, the film also stars veteran actress Waheeda Rehman and Golshifteh Farahani in important roles. The Song of Scorpions had its world premiere at the 70th Locarno Film Festival in Locarno, Switzerland on August 9, 2017.

The film’s trailer is a deep-dive into the enchanting world of the Rajasthan-set drama, which follows the story of Nooran, a fiercely independent tribal woman, who learns the ancient healing art of scorpion-singing from her grandmother Zubeida, played by Waheed Rehman.

But things change when she is snubbed by her villagers and is then offered a marriage proposal by Aadam, played by Irrfan, a camel trader in love with her since he first heard her voice. “I see you everywhere, but it is a myth… Marry me, Nooran,” Irrfan says in the trailer. “The scorpions are waiting for you,” Golshifteh’s Nooran says, to which Irrfan replies, “If you are less than a scorpion, then bite me.”

The official Twitter account of Panorama Studios shared the trailer and called The Song of Scorpions “a heart-wrenching tale of love, obsession and betrayal.”

Presented by Panorama Spotlight and 70MM Talkies and backed by A Feather Light Films and KNM Production, the song also stars Shashank Arora, Tillotama Shome. Irrfan’s son, actor Babil also took Instagram and shared the trailer, writing, “Bringing alive a heart-wrenching tale of love, obsession and betrayal.”

Irrfan’s last big screen appearance was in Angrezi Medium, which released in March 2020. In April that year, Irrfan passed away aged 53.
