The Buckingham Murders box office collection day 3: Kareena Kapoor’s The Buckingham Murders witnessed a steady rise in its box office performance over its first weekend, showing potential after a modest opening. According to data shared by the makers, the film kicked off its journey by earning Rs 1.62 crore on Friday. However, it gained momentum on Saturday, with collections surging by 90 percent, bringing in Rs 2.41 crore. The upward trend continued on Sunday, with a further boost to Rs 2.72 crore, making the total domestic collection Rs 6.75 crore by the end of the weekend.
While the overall box office numbers might appear low at first glance, the film’s earnings are impressive, given the limited number of screens it has been released on in India. The Buckingham Murders is playing in just 1,334 screens across the country. On Sunday, the film registered an 18.80 percent occupancy rate for Hindi shows, with the highest footfall of over 28 percent during the evening screenings. The film had the most screens in the NCR region, where it was showing on 378 screens and saw nearly 19 percent occupancy. In Mumbai, where the film was shown on 240 screens, it registered an 18 percent occupancy rate. Ahmedabad, where director Hansal Mehta has his roots, had 226 screens with 15 percent occupancy.
Kareena Kapoor has actively shared behind-the-scenes moments from the film, expressing her pride in both her performance and her role as a producer. Recently, she posted on social media, sharing her excitement and fulfillment in being part of the project. She wrote, “As an actor, it’s the choices one makes… And I am very proud of this choice ❤️ Please watch this story and dive into my world of crime and drama… a dream I have always had to act in or produce one… ❤️but here I got the best of both worlds. Go find a screen❤️ #TheBuckinghamMurders now in cinemas.”
The film had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on October 14, 2023. The Buckingham Murders follows the story of a British-Indian detective, portrayed by Kareena, who is coping with a personal tragedy while investigating the murder of a child in Buckinghamshire. The film also marks Kareena’s debut as a producer, with her co-producing the project alongside Ekta Kapoor. Reports suggest that the film was made on a budget of Rs 40 crore. Ekta had said at the trailer launch that the film has recovered it’s budget before release and the film’s box office collection would be profit. The ensemble cast also includes Ranveer Brar, Rukku Nahar, Ash Tandon, and Keith Allen in key roles.
