Sunny Leone was not sure about doing the reality TV show Bigg Boss as she didn’t know how the Indian audience would react to her participation, and was also concerned about her safety. But she was newly married and had a house to pay for, so she decided to give it a shot because the money was good.
Sunny Leone entered Bigg Boss 5 as a wild card in 2011. The show was won by TV actor Juhi Parmar that year, but Sunny became the most popular contestant of that season. The highlight of her stint was being offered to star as the lead in Mahesh Bhatt’s new production venture, while she was still on the show.
In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Sunny shared, “I first did not want to go for many different reasons — the main one was safety, and I was worrying about how people would react when I would get there.”
But the money she was being offered was good, and she realised that it was enough to make a down payment for a house in the US. Sunny added, “I just thought that after I come home in a week or two, I can put a down payment on a house. I just got married, so we were looking forward to this idea of starting our life, and we were like, ‘Great, we’re gonna be able to buy a house or put a down payment on a house’. Then that was it, it was that simple.”
Sunny Leone married her now-husband Daniel Weber in 2011. Now, the couple are parents of three, two twin boys, Noah and Asher, and a daughter, Nisha.
On Bigg Boss 5, Sunny was cast as the lead in Jism 2. Recalling the day when Bhatt came inside the house to cast her, the actor said, “At that moment, I didn’t think it was real, because I didn’t even know who he was. They just said this is so and so from the film industry, and everybody else was going bananas in the house. This whole buzz was happening, and I was like, ‘Okay, fine, great. I don’t know who he is but he is probably amazing.'”
Bhatt, in an interview with The Indian Express at the time, had revealed, “We were on a lookout for a lead actress for Jism 2, and when Pooja Bhatt, the director of the film and a regular viewer of Bigg Boss, saw Sunny on the show, she thought of approaching her for the film.”
Currently, Pooja Bhatt is a contestant on Bigg Boss OTT 2 and when Sunny Leone came to know of her participation on the show, she was sitting next to and thought to herself, “Life has come full circle.”
