The popular listicle channel WatchMojo on Thursday posted a video of the top 10 films starring Shah Rukh Khan, much to the delight of SRK’s legions of fans across the globe. The actor’s reach no doubt expanded after the release of Pathaan and Jawan, which did solid business in overseas territories, and grossed a combined total of over $20 million (Rs 166 crore) in the US alone.
Designed as a top 10 countdown, the list includes several of Shah Rukh’s biggest movies, but also omits a handful of gems that his fans pointed out in the comments section. According to the WatchMojo list, Shah Rukh’s best film are (in descending order) Dil To Pagal Hai, Darr, Devdas, Pathaan, Jawan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Baazigar, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
While it’s understandable for there to be no mention of his films from the 2010s, many of which underperformed critically and commercially, some fans were surprised by the omission of movies such as Veer-Zaara, Main Hoon Na, My Name is Khan and Chak De! India, each of which found spots in the honourable mentions list. But criticially acclaimed films such as Swades and Paheli found no mentions at all.
“No list of SRK’s best movies is complete without the mention of Swades and Chak De India,” read the top comment on the video. Others, however, expressed their delight at Shah Rukh being covered by the channel, which has over 25 million subsribers on YouTube. “SRK featured on Watchmojo? Wow! Never thought I’d see this day!! Finally some Indian Cinema representation!!” one fan wrote, and another added, “Now the world knows the KING OF BOLLYWOOD.” A third fan commented, “I am so glad that WatchMojo did this. A list well put together. SRK truly personifies the idea of India through his movies and his early days struggle as an outsider to Bollywood who eventually rules it today.”
Other fans took the opportunity to share their personal lists of favourite Shah Rukh movies. The star made a massive comeback earlier this year with Pathaan, which grossed over Rs 1050 crore worldwide. Jawan is on track to break the film’s record, and has currently grossed Rs 1030 crore globally.
