Shah Rukh Khan, who has been in the movies since the early 1990s, recently shared that his youngest son AbRam hasn’t seen many of his films and he wishes to capture his son and the kids of his generation as his audience. Shah Rukh was speaking at the Global Freight Summit in Dubai on Tuesday and said that one’s “core competence” has to stay the same, and they need to build on it by focusing on smaller things.
He shared, “My core competence is I think to be able to act a bit.” He then added that he has tried to find his focus within his core competency. “My focus in my early years was to make some money and make a livelihood. The focus was very clear but through acting,” he said. Shah Rukh said next, he used his acting skills and tried to focus on innovation. “I needed to innovate myself as an actor but the focus was still on the core competence. The focal point within that focus can keep changing,” he shared.
Shah Rukh then said that kids are more literate with audio and video and have lesser attention span. “You really need to be trying to be able to hold the attention of youngsters. Not because I want to be young, I just need to understand that they have phones, iPads, laptops, can I take them away? Or come on them and be the content that they consume? I think that becomes important. Younger people have smaller span of attention. I measure my success as ‘can I hold the attention of a younger audience now because there are so many distractions?'”
Shah Rukh will next be seen in King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
